Many London organisations are part of a group, with entities across the UK, the EU and beyond. UK GDPR allows a group of undertakings to appoint a single DPO, provided that person is easily accessible from each establishment. Done well, that's efficient. Done badly, it leaves a DPO in another country who has never heard of your UK HR system.

We act as the named, outsourced DPO for London organisations — or support an existing group DPO with UK-specific cover — remotely and on a fixed monthly fee.

One DPO for the whole group

A group DPO works when they genuinely know each entity's processing, are reachable by staff and data subjects in each jurisdiction, and have the resources to monitor compliance across all of them. The test is practical accessibility, not just a name in a privacy notice.

Where a group DPO sits outside the UK, a UK-based deputy or outsourced DPO for the UK entities is often the simplest way to meet that test without restructuring the group's governance.

A DPO is not a representative

These roles are often confused. A DPO is an independent adviser and monitor inside the organisation. A representative is a local point of contact required under Article 27 when an organisation without an establishment in a jurisdiction offers goods or services to people there, or monitors their behaviour.

A US company selling into the UK with no UK office may need a UK representative. A London company with no EU establishment selling into the EU may need an EU representative. Neither obligation is met by appointing a DPO, and a DPO appointment isn't met by appointing a representative.

Conflicts of interest in the C-suite

In financial and professional services firms, it's tempting to give the DPO title to the General Counsel, Head of Compliance or Chief Risk Officer. The ICO's guidance is clear that people who determine the purposes and means of processing — typically senior management roles — usually can't also be the DPO. Our guide to what a DPO actually does covers the independence rules in detail.

How our outsourced DPO service works

  1. A free 30-minute consultation to understand your organisation, your processing and whether a DPO is mandatory for you.
  2. A clear proposal with a single fixed monthly fee, based on your size and complexity. No hidden costs.
  3. Your named DPO in place within 48 hours, with the ICO notified of their contact details.
  4. Ongoing support: monthly reporting, policy oversight, breach readiness and direct access to your DPO.

Every engagement runs on rolling monthly terms, with no long-term contract.

DPO consultancy without an appointment

Not every organisation needs a formal DPO. If the mandatory triggers don't apply to you, our DPO consultancy gives you the same expertise on the specific areas you need — a compliance gap analysis, DPIAs for new projects, policy reviews, breach response support or staff training — without the statutory obligations that come with appointing a DPO.

For London firms, that often means a DPIA for a new trading or client platform, advice on a group data-sharing arrangement, or an independent review before a regulator or client audit.

Frequently asked questions

Can one DPO cover our whole group?

Yes, provided the DPO is easily accessible from each establishment and has the knowledge and resources to monitor compliance in each. Many groups add a UK-based outsourced DPO or deputy to meet that test for their UK entities.

Is a DPO the same as a UK or EU representative?

No. A representative is a local contact point required for organisations without an establishment in the UK or EU that target people there. A DPO is an independent internal adviser. You may need one, both or neither.

Can our General Counsel be our DPO?

Usually not. Senior roles that decide how personal data is used create a conflict of interest with the DPO's independent monitoring role.
